UpgradeKingscote Design Limited (KDL) is highly regarded by our clients and often referred to as our unique selling point or USP. It provides a unique blend of engineering expertise spanning all aspects of structural engineering.
The highly capable team, developed from a two-person unit into more than 20 staff by Managing Director Patrick Sharkey, supports us to develop the best solutions for clients. As experts in our specialist field, they can be relied upon to unlock the most complex projects to provide safer, more efficient, integrated and sustainable designs.
Now celebrating its tenth year, we look back on some of KDL's best works and invaluable assets.
KDL’s design services are far more wide-ranging than temporary works design solutions, with the team supporting the delivery of some extremely complex projects in London.
It's responsible for delivering both permanent works and temporary works designs on all Morrisroe projects as well as focusing on design management, constructability, value engineering, concrete technology, and low carbon structural solutions. The company is particularly focused on integration – both in relation to the design of temporary works and permanent works as well as the integration of design and construction.
The post-tensioned concrete design team is one of the largest in the UK and sits at the forefront of PT design. In fact, Kingscote’s PT capability has proved to be a huge asset and director Alessia Piras and her team have been a leading light in this niche and specialist area.
A currently unconventional practice in the UK, this dynamic and challenging field is also a part of KDL's focus. It involves applying engineering skills to develop and deliver smart solutions that support the construction process.
The team achieves this through the integration of design and construction early in the process along with the integration of temporary works and permanent works design to optimise the design for construction. The outcome? Reduced construction risk, cost and programme with improved safety, quality, sustainability and productivity.
It shouldn't go without mention that Kingscote Design is one of the most culturally and gender diverse areas of our business; an attribute that managing director Patrick Sharkey is particularly proud of.
Diversity refers to the presence of difference and having a diverse workforce brings a range of benefits to any team. In the field of engineering, it brings a variety of perspectives to the table. With such an expanded number of outlooks comes an increase in the likelihood of innovation, growth and subsequent financial success.
Patrick will be marking Kingscote Design’s tenth anniversary with talks and presentations (online and in person) over the coming months. We look forward to hearing about KDL’s future plans and new areas of focus.
